The graph below shows US consumers' average annual expenditures on cell phone and residential phone services between 2001 and 2010.
The line chart gives information about the average money US consumers expending on mobile phone and landline phone services from 2001 to 2010.
As can be seen from the graph, while the expenditures on cell phone services increased over the period shown, the opposite was true for the other.
In 2001, the yearly spending on residential phone services was almost $700, which was considerably higher than the annual expenditures on mobile ones, at a mere $200. Over the next 5 years, the amount of money spent on cell phones rose gradually to the same amount of money on landline phone services, at roughly $500 in 2006.
From 2006 onwards, the US annual expenditures on mobile phone services surpassed that on residential phone services and mobile became the more common mean of communication. To be specific, yearly spending on cell phone services increased to more than $700 in the last year, while the amount of money spent on landline phone ones decreased to about $400 at the end of the period.
