Overall, the share of teachers’ salaries was always the highest of the 5 different categories. In contrast, insurance accounted for the lowest percentage of the total school spending over the period shown.
In 1981, 40% of total expenditure by a particular school went to teachers’ salaries while the proportion of other workers’ salaries was 28%. Over the next 10 years, the rate of salaries of teachers slightly increased to 50%, about twice as much as that of other workers’ salaries, at 22%. In the year 2001, the figure for teachers’ salaries and other staff’s salaries followed a similar pattern, decreasing by 5% and 7%, respectively.
Turning to the remaining categories, resources and furniture and equipment constituted the same percentages, at 15% in 1981. 20 years later, the proportion of resources experienced a marginal rise to 20% then fell by 11%. In the meantime, this period showed a dramatic fluctuation in that of furniture and equipment, ranging between 5% and about 20%. Meanwhile, initiating at 2%, the rate of insurance considerably went up to 8% at the end of the period after increasing slowly by 1% in 1991.
