Recent figures show an increase in violent crime among youngsters under the age of 18. Some psychologists claim that the basic reason for this is that children these days are not getting the social and emotional learning they need from parents and teachers. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this opinion? Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
In the contemporary era, the world has been experiencing a considerable rise in violent crime among young people under 18. Certain experts in psychology assume that the essential reason for this problem is the deficiency of learning socially and emotionally. In this essay, the argument will be addressed coupled with my own perspective on this issue.
In one hand, in modern life, parents almost spend their time on working to earn money. Therefore, there is less time to guide, supervise, and take care of their children carefully. Furthermore, gap between parents and children have been expanded; these children have rarely had chances to share their feelings to their parents. Moreover, there are plenty of negative items such as violent films and bad things from Internet influenced the teenagers. Regarding the divorce, having a broken family and shortage of love from both mother and father have caused distraction of those youngsters in their study and some significant negative impacts of their psychology. As a result, children with immature character have become more aggressive, behave rudely and imitate violent movies.
In the other hand, children spend more time in school than anywhere else outside the home and they have the right to go to school free of fear, However, some schools have become places where children experience violence, bullying, and corporal punishment which encourage some teenagers to defend themselves with weapons and fighting. Undeniably, teachers are interested in educating the school curriculum, regardless their vital role in taking care their students emotionally.
In conclusion, in my opinion, parents and teachers are responsible for violent crime among youngsters.
