The diagram below shows the manufacturing process for making sugar from sugar cane.
Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
The diagram shows how sugar is produced from sugar cane.
It is clear that there are seven distinct stages in this process, from the initial planting of sugar cane to the eventual drying and cooling.
At the first stage in the sugar making process, sugar cane is planted in the fields between 12 and 18 months. This plant is then harvested either by hand or specialized machines, depending on the size of the plantations and the available tools. Next, the sugar cane is transported to a place where the crushing process takes place. The result of the process is a juice that will be subjected to further treatment.
Stages four and five of the process both involve syrup production. The juice obtained from the previous process is purified by using a limestone filter before being heated to become syrup through evaporation. Following this, sugar crystals are formed from the syrup by centrifugal machines. Finally, the drying and cooling process is carried out to produce the end product: sugar.
