The line graph details the number of store closures and openings in a given country between 2011 and 2018. From a holistic perspective, it is clear that both numbers are down, although most notable is the number of openings. Following the erratic trend of both categories, at the end of this period closings became more common.

Opens were more stable and rose to a peak of 7,100 in 2013 before reaching nearly about the same amount as it closed in 2014.
After this point, the number of closes dropped significantly to just 600 in 2015 before falling back to slightly lower levels and ending the survey period at 5,100. In contrast, the number of opens decreased slightly to about 4,000 between 2015 and 2017 and dropped to 3,000 in 2018.
