Recent research has shown that business meetings and training are increasingly taking place online. What are the advantages and disadvantages of this?
In recent years, a significant digital transformation has reshaped the way business meetings and training sessions, driven by the escalating adoption of online platforms. I will consider how this view brings several notable advantages, which I will elucidate in the folliwng paragraphs.
Regarding the merits, we must acknowledge that the global accessibility for web-based meetings and education sessions offered by virtual platforms (Zoom and Google meet) have shattered geographical boundaries. This newfound capability enables participants from around the world to convene in a single virtual event. Beyond fostering international collaboration, it ensures the preservation of valuable knowledge through the ability to record these sessions, not to mentions helping to those who unable to attend in real-time but also serves as a reference point for the future. Furthermore, cost-saving aspect of this transfromastion can impact on an organization’s budget. For example, it is cutting down on expenses related to airfare, accommodation, and other logistical costs. Consequently, it diminishes the need for frequent business travel, aligning with a more sustainable and budget-friendly approach.
By contrast, we must elucidate the various demerits of this issues that this abrupt change to the way people conduct meeting and training result in a lack o face-to -face interaction, pontentially dismissing the strong bonding between personal connections and team building. Moreover, issue related to the technical glitches, internet connectivity problems, or cybersecurity concerns will interrupt the flow of remotes meetings and training, which causing inefficiencies and frustration moments. Notably, the year 2022 witnessed the COVID-19 pandemic’s influence on remote work, which led to a staggering 238% surge in cyberattacks, underscoring the critical need for enhanced cybersecurity measures.
In conclusion, while some may perceive potentially drawbacks to certain respects, I would argue that the shift towards Internet-based meetings and training can be substantially significant. Those include elevating global accessibility as well as lowering an organization’s business trip budget.
