The trend of Malaysia has the most significant increase among these 4 countries, giving the fact that there were only 30% of population living in the city in 1970, which was in the 2nd position and has risen to approximately 75% in 2020 and expected to reach over 80% and ranked as the 1st place in 2040.
Indonesia that has relatively the same pattern as Malaysia was only ranked in the 4th place with less than 15% of the city population, which is also predicted to reach 60% in 2040 and occupy the 2nd position.
In the contrast, population living in the cities in Philippines and Thailand have both experienced increases in 1990 and dropped afterwards. The trend have rebounced during 2010 to 2020 and gradually elevated since 2020.
In general, the overall city population in 4 countries is predicted to increase in the future.
