Overall, the number of shops closed seemed to slightly decrease, with the exception of 2015, while the number of new shops opened in this time range showed a wide range of figures, but generally illustrated a dramatic downward.
In 2011, there were approximately 8500 shops opened. Then, this number went down sharply by nearly 50%. Although the figure witnessed a rise in the next two years, many of the stores continually closed after that, putting the data back to 4000 stores in 2015. Eventually, It was seen that the number of opened shops went on decreasing and ended at 3000 new stores in 2018, showing the lowest number in seven years.
The number of shop closures saw small fluctuations with around roughly 6200 stores, until 2015, it dramatically went down to reach the bottom at over 500 stores. However, after this year, the reported figures increased to about 5100 shops and remained stable till 2018.
