The following appears in a letter to the editor for the West Lansburg News:
"The tufted groundhog lives in the coastal wetlands of West Lansburg. Ancient records suggest that the tufted groundhog once numbered in the millions. Since they were declared a wildlife sanctuary in 2004, development along the coastal wetlands has been prohibited. Now local development interests are lobbying for the West Lansburg council to allow an access road to be built along the edge of wetlands. Neighboring Eastern Carpenteria, which had a similar sanctuary, has seen its sea otter population decline since the repeal of its sanctuary status in 1978. In order to preserve the region's biodiversity and ensure a healthy environment, the West Lansburg council should not allow the road to be built"
The following argument is flawed for numerous reasons. Primarily, the argument is based on the unwarranted assumptions that ancient record once had it that tufted groundhog were numbered in the millions, rendering its main conclusion, that inorder to maintain biodiversity in the coastal wetlands and be sure of healthy environment West Lansburg council must repudiate construction of road, invalid.
The argument fails to provide any justification that, tufted groundhog were declared a wildlife sanctuary in 2004. Had the argument provide infromation regarding any wild animal consistently observed in the environment; Even then it would have to further prove that such animal is still in existence up till the present moment.
The argument also leaves many unanswered questions. Local developments interests to build road needs to be question. If the argument provide infromation that it is difficult ot access West Lansburg it is still incomplete as a suggestion because it has to come up with fact that West Lansburg has resources they need to share so building of road will then be necessary.
Finally, the argument claims without warrant that, Carpenteria sea withnesed population decline. It does not provide information of the population before and after the sanctuary is made.
Because the argument makes several unwarranted assumptions, it fails to make a convincing case that In order to maintain region's biodiversity and healthy environment the West Lansburb,
