Venus
Both the reading passage and the lecture are about the condition on Venus. The reading passage points out that it will be difficult for human to lives on Venus. The lecturer states that every problem can be solved by using floating balloon, this balloon 15 km meter above the Venus surface.
Firstly, the author states that Venus surface has 90 times greater atmospheric pressure than earth. And also the passage points out that this pressure can crush spacecraft and human. This point is challenged by the lecturer. The professor insists that floating balloon lies 15 kilometer far away from Venus surface, as result of effect of Venus atmospheric pressure on station is same like earth atmospheric pressure. Secondly, the reading points out that Venus do not have water and oxygen and it will be impossible to supply from earth. The lecturer mentions that Venus’s atmosphere consist of gases such as carbon dioxide and sulfuric acid which can uses to produce oxygen and water chemically at the balloon station.
Next, the passage elaborates that about 60 percent of the sunlight that hits Venus is reflected back into space by the thick clouds. Therefore, the lack of light would prevent the use of solar power cells, so humans could not get electricity to power their machines and equipment. This point is refuted by the lecturer. The lecturer elaborates that solar power cells can collect both direct and reflected sunlight.
In conclusion, the reading and the lecture both are about the condition on Venus. The lecturer effectively refutes the point made in the reading passage.
