The bar chart gives information about the percentage of households who own and rent accommodations in England and Wales from 1918 to 2011.
Overall, the rate of households in owned accommodations increased dramatically while households in rented accommodations decreased. Besides, families who owned accommodations were higher than those renting their houses 40 years later.
First of all, in 1918, the proportion of families renting accommodations were nearly 80% and thus falling rapidly to nearly 60% in 1961, and then remain stable at 50% in 10 years later. Moreover, the percentage of households who rented houses witnessed a huge change which declined moderately to 38% in 2011.
On the other hand, in 1918, the percentage of households owning houses was lower than households renting houses by approximately 50%. In addition, there was a sharp upward trend to 40% of households owned accommodations in 1961. Furthermore, families owning houses kept a balance of about 50% in 1971 and then grew sharply more than 60% in the period 40 years.
