The diagram shows the design of a modern landfill for household waste. Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons where relevant.
The given design is for contemporary landfill for household waste. The diagram shows four stages of the development starting from construction to usage and then closure.
Firstly, a deeper man-made pit is dug over a natural solid rock to make space for household waste. After digging the hole, clay layer is laid with synthetic substance to achieve durability. Then drainage pipes along with drainage tank are laid to make way for gases and waste liquids. At stage 3 household waste is deposited in the hole. The liquid waste can flow through the drainage pipes making enough space for solid waste to sustain. The synthetic substance is rounded up through the hole to keep the space stable and usable. After submission of household waste another thick layer of clay is put above in order to cover the waste and dust it. The waste gases can also be released through drainage pipes installed for waste liquid preventing building up gases inside the hole.
