• The pie chart below shows the main reasons why agricultural land becomes less productive. The table shows how these causes affected three regions of the world during the 1990s
The pie chart illustrates the primary causes of agricultural land becoming less productive. The table indicates how three different nations ( North America, Europe, and Oceania ) were affected by these causes over the time 1990s.
Overall, over-grazing occupied the highest proportion in the pie chart. By contrast, the proportion of the other was just a fifth compared to that figure. Back to the table, Europe was the region whose percentage of total land degraded was the highest in three regions.
A closer look at the pie chart highlights the fact that the percentage of over-grazing was 35%, which was higher than over-cultivation’s about 7%. And this figure is the same as the percentage of the other. Therefore, the other had the lowest percentage in the pie chart. While, deforestation had a percentage of about 30%, which was lower than the highest just 5%.
As clearly seen in the table, deforestation and over-cultivation in Europe have the largest percentage in three nations over 9,8% and 7,7% respectively. This figure made Europe’s total land degraded become the highest 23%. However, the percentage of over-grazing in this region just only was the second highest after Oceania’s with 11,3%.
