Essay topics:

The line graph shows visits to and from the UK from 1979 to 1999, and the bar graph shows the most popular countries visited by UK residents in 1999.

The line graph provides information about the overseas and domestic tourism volume in the UK over a period of 20 years whereas the bar chart shows Britishs’ preference for different tourist attractions.

Generally, from 1799 to 1999, although both witnessed growth, it is evident that more English travel to other countries than overseas residents coming to theirs for a holiday.
Additionally, Spain and France are the two most visited nations by UK residents as they significantly surpassed others in terms of visits.

Firstly, in 1799, the visit to and from the UK was similar, at around 10 million. In the following years, the figure for trips made by foreigners increased steadily with only 1-million-growth in three years. In contrast, that of the British skyrocketed to reach its peak at around 54 million visits in 1999, which is nearly two times higher than that of overseas residents.

Regarding the foreign destinations of UK visitors, France was the most popular choice for the British in 1999 with about 11 million travellers, followed by Spain with under 10 million visits. However, the number for the USA was equal to only a third of Spain, at nearly 3 million. Finally, compared to other tourist places, Turkey and Greece were the least common choice as under 3 million UK residents visited these countries.
