The line graph illustrates the proportion of four different materials such as plastics, aluminium cans, glass containers and paper &cardboard from the years 1982 to 2010 in a particular country.
Overall, the recycling rate was higher for paper & cardboard while the least recycled material were plastics. On the other hand, glass containers and aluminium cans, though were not a popularchoice for recycling in the past, their recycling rates have increased in recent years.
In the year 1982, the recycling rate of paper and cardboard was around 65%, which was the highest among all the materials. The rate was about 80% in the year 1994 and since then, there has been a gradual decrease untill 2010. Plastics on the other hand, accounted the lowest recycling rate, just below 5% in 1990 to approximately 9% in 2010.
While glass containers’ reusable rates rose gradually from around 40% in 1994 to about 60% in 2010, aluminium cans saw a sharp rise, whose recycling rate increased from around 5% in the year 1986 to approximately 45% in the year 2010.
