The graph below shows the quantities of goods transported in the UK between 1974 and 2002 by four different modes of transport.
The picture describes the number of products transferred in the UK between 1974 and 2002 in four different modes of transport.
In general, it can be seen that there was a similar trend among road, water and pipeline transportation. Another noticeable feature is that goods were mostly delivered by road while the pipeline was the least used for transportation.
In 1974, Roadway had more than 70 million tons of products were transported to the UK while around 40 million tons were delivered via waterway and railway. The least customers used pipeline transporting services in 1974, around 5 million tons. The usage of roadway delivery then witnessed a slight fluctuation before reaching 100 million tons in 2002. There was a significant increase in the amount of waterway transportation from the period between 1978 and 2002, from 40 million tons to around 62 million tons, except for 1998 when the number drop to nearly 50 million tons.
On the contrary with 3 others types of transportation, the demand for using railway services for delivery to the UK remained unchanged after a slight fluctuation in the period between 1978 and 1994 when it dropped from 40 million tons to 35 million tons before raised back to around 40 million tons in 2002. Pipeline delivery services had the least usage demand in 1974, only 5 million tons. However, the number increased significantly in the period between 197 and 1994 when the number of goods transported improved from around 10 million tons to 25 million tons before remaining stable between 1994 and 2002.
